Volunteers of the Month: The Konecky Family

Volunteers are the heart of our organization. Each month we focus on a volunteer and share their story. This month we’d like you to introduce you to the Konecky family.

The way in which the Konecky family found Million Meal Movement makes our hearts sing. It’s exactly what we hope for as we work to spread the word about our mission and our work.

Ryan and Sabrina’s children attend a school which requires middle school students to complete volunteer hours. The Koneckys wanted to find a way for them to volunteer together as a family.

“We wanted something that our kids could be involved with, understand, and feel that they are making a difference,” Ryan said. “Meal-packing came to mind and we just searched for opportunities online and found Million Meal Movement. It was a great fit for us!”

The Koneckys have shown up for Million Meal Movement and for the hungry in our community. What looked like a good fit online turned out to be a great fit in real life.

“We love the fact that we’re able to provide meals for local families. We can have fun and bond as a family while also getting to know other volunteers.”

One question we always ask our Volunteers of the Month to tell us one word they would use to encourage others to volunteer with us. The Koneckys couldn’t decide on one word, but the words that came to mind for them were “love, give and fun.”

We know it’s not easy to find volunteer opportunities for the entire family, especially when you want to include younger kids. It’s also difficult to juggle those opportunities with the limited time our busy lives afford us. We strive to make our packing events fun and engaging for our volunteers and participants, so that you’ll want to come back again and again. And while that makes it a good experience on your end, it helps us get closer to our ultimate goal: ending hunger. Thank you to the Konecky family – for spending your time making a difference in the lives of hungry Hoosiers and for teaching your children the importance of volunteerism.

We are thrilled when new volunteers walk in the door, no matter their age or experience. Thank you to all our volunteers. Whether you’ve packed 1 meal or 10,000, you’re helping to fight hunger at home. Curious about upcoming volunteer opportunities?
