COVID-19 Hunger Relief Impact to Date

It’s hard to believe we are 7 months into the COVID-19 pandemic. What isn’t hard to believe is the incredible impact you’ve had in supporting COVID-19 hunger relief efforts in Indiana through Million Meal Movement.

Feeding America estimates that 17.1 million additional people could find themselves without enough food as a result of repercussions from the COVID-19 pandemic. Roughly 2 in 5 people visiting a food bank are seeking help for the first time. We anticipate that this level of elevated need will be the new normal for the months ahead. Food banks and food pantries continue to serve the most vulnerable in our communities.  At the same time, food donations have dropped, and volunteers and staff are unavailable due to measures put in place to slow the spread of infection. Hunger relief agencies such as ours will continue to face increased demand.

We have made significant changes to our operations and meal packing procedures in order to continue serving the community in this time of great need while keeping our employees and volunteers safe during the COVID-19 pandemic.

It hasn’t been easy, and the need continues to be great. As we head into the last quarter of 2020, we wanted to share with you the results of your financial support and volunteer hours. Since the beginning of the coronavirus outbreak, Million Meal Movement has:

  • engaged 975 volunteers in a safe environment.
  • packed 301,138 meals for delivery to Indiana food banks and pantries.
  • served over 75,000 Hoosier families.

Thank you to our volunteers, donors, funders and corporate sponsors. Without your support, we would not have been able to continue operating during this time of critical need.
