Volunteers Pack 20,000 Meals to Feed Children and Fight Global Food Insecurity
May 14, 2014 – Employees of Allegion plc, an S&P 500 safety and security company, are working to address the issue of food insecurity in central Indiana and across the globe.
Hunger remains a devastating, daily reality for too many Hoosier families and millions of others in poor, disaster-stricken or war-ravaged nations. This week, 50 volunteers from Allegion’s Information Technology department came together at the company’s North American corporate center to help Kids Against Hunger of Central Indiana stamp out hunger here AllegionVolunteers-350at home and starvation abroad. They packaged 20,000 highly nutritious meals during an afternoon team building and community service event in downtown Indianapolis. Kids Against Hunger of Central Indiana will deliver these meals to partner organizations helping to meet dire human need in Haiti and the Philippines as both nations struggle to feed their populations after devastating natural disasters.
“One of Allegion’s core values is to serve others, not yourself,” said Allegion President and CEO, Dave Petratis. “I think this says a lot about the type of employees we have, that they make time during a team leadership conference to serve the community.”
In 2014, nearly 8,000 volunteers will donate more than 100,000 hours to package over 3 million meals with Kids Against Hunger of Central Indiana. Seventy-five percent of these meals will feed the starving abroad, while 25% will remain in central Indiana to care for the needs of children locally.
